HURRICANE GUSTAV

MONDAY UPDATE: Everyone is fine. The storm wasn't nearly as bad as they thought it would be. Whew! My family lives in Lake Charles, La and Houston and I think we got more rain in Salt Lake Sunday and Monday nights than they did. I hate hurricane season. I lived there for 18 years and never had to evacuate, so it's kinda weird to see so many hurricanes head toward Louisiana in the last few years.
Some of you may have heard about this massive storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico. It has definately caught my attention because I am from Louisiana. My parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew on the way all live there. And another brother and sister-in-law live in Houston. And an uncle, anut and cousins also live in SE Texas. I guess it's suppossed to make land fall on Monday sometime. It's pretty scary watching the news. I pray that my family and friends and their homes can be kept safe!

From one......to THREE!!

No, we are not pregnant with twins! (That might be kinda fun though!) As some of you noticed, we had a couple of extra kids over the weekend. Althea (7) and Elle (5) came to stay with us. They are the 2 little girls I babysat all though college and then some. I started when Althea was 5 months old and then Elle came along a yr and a half later. This was the 1st time they had stayed over night anywhere without their parents. And they did great. Londyn had a great time with them, too. I think Elle packed half her toy box! They love horses and ponies so they brought about 30 toy horses with them. Londyn thought that was great, too!

On Saturday we did a little yard work and then we spent 3 hours at the pool we always go to in Park City. It was so much fun. The girls thought the water slide was pretty cool (I still think it is really cool!).

They came to church with us on Sunday. It was there 1st time to go to an LDS church. They did really well. I kept looking for the Primary to bring them to me; instead I had Londyn brought to me because she bit another kid in nursery-again. I'm really really sorry if she has bitten any of your kids. We're trying to break this bad habit.

Thanks Tiffany for letting us borrow the extra bed (some how Elle managed to fall off of it during the night, even though it was on floor!!! Apparently she falls off of things a lot) and for letting me hold sweet little Jayden at church!

Latest Creation

With Cody being out of town again (this time a last minute trip to Colorado for work-and by last minute I mean 5:00pm Monday: Cody's boss says "You're going to Colorado tonight. And at 9:30pm his plane took off. Sad!!!) I decided to bust out the sewing machine again. I made a blanket for litte Nora, Adam and Jill's new baby. I wanted to make something soft and girlie since this is their 1st girl. It's made of my 2 favorite fabrics- minky dots and jersey! I hope my very beginner sewing skills hold up. I paired it up with a burp cloth I made a few months ago. Hope you like it baby Nora!

Cody's Second Post

The last couple of days have been a riot. Some of you know that I few weeks ago I went in for some breathing and allergy tests (I was keeping Linzy awake with my snoring), and the Doctor was kind enough to tell me that I'm allergic to most anything that grows, and that I have fairly bad asthma. Good times. I had been struggling to breathe deeply, especially when riding, and decided to get it checked out. The Doctor gave me some allergy medications, and some inhalable corticosteroids (Advair, Flonase) to help reduce the inflammation in my sinuses and throat. I started the medications and after a few days it was like I had a whole new air intake valve. I was breathing easier, sleeping better and riding harder than I had in a long time. I felt like I had a new lease on life. Two nights ago I thought my lease was up.

So I'm sitting at work on Wednesday and notice that the last molar on the upper right side of my mouth is really sore, mostly when I'm snacking on something. I don't really think anything of it, just start chewing on the left side and away we go. That night I can hardly sleep. I've got a low fever, I'm sweatier than a hariy guido on the beach, and my tooth is killing me. I get up, get some oragel on it, down a couple Advil (It's my every pain reliever!) and head back to bed. I sleep through most of Wednesday night. Thursday, my tooth is killing me. I maintain my Advil and Oragel vigil. Thursday night is miserable. I can barely sleep, I get up, try rinsing it with Listerine, continue what is now an Advil and Oragel habit, and try to go back to sleep. This routine plays itself out four times on Thursday. Friday, I'm having trouble staying upright in my chair. The pain is making me dizzy, nauseous, it's awesome.

I'm at my wit's end. All I've changed in my diet in the last few weeks is the Advair. I start looking online, turns out Advair can eat the enamel in your teeth if you don't rinse after inhaling. I'm angry. I call my allergist. His rocket scientist of a nurse tells me there is no way the Advair has caused the pain in my tooth. I'm livid. I'm right and everyone else is just stupid at this point. I call my dentist. She orders me an antibiotic and some pain meds. I sit at the pharmacy, the world literally spinning around me. I'm just imagining the scene where I pass out in front of the pharmacy like some junky, the plastic chair I'm sitting on goes sliding out from under me and knocks over some old lady with two bad hips and a tennis ball covered walker. I focus my attention on getting back to my office. I ask my boss if I can go home. I drive through the fog of the pain meds and make it home alive. I try going upstairs and going to bed, knowing I have an hour before the conference call with our ad agency to talk about meeting strategies for an upcoming tradeshow (sounds riveting, right?). I toss and turn for thirty minutes. I can't take it anymore. In tears, I call my dentist who recommends me to an endodontist. She thinks I have a nerve problem and need a root canal. Sweet! I think to myself. I get to pay 1200 bucks to have someone jam some little needles into my tooth. I can't wait.

Poor Linzy is watching my pathetic attempt to pretend like it doesn't hurt. If this is anywhere as painful as childbirth, I am so sorry. ;-) The endodontist agrees to see me after hours. We head over. The Dr. introduces himself as Blake Nielsen. He is the nicest guy in the world (my judgment may have been skewed by the pain, but this guy was awesome). He puts the novacaine in my mouth, and all of a sudden, the pain is gone. Dr. Nielsen is no longer the nicest guy in the world, he's been elevated to guardian angel/fairy god mother status. He lets the novocaine marinate for a few, then comes back and shows me the x-rays. I have a huge! infected abscess behind my tooth.

I mention the Advair. He tells me it is an immunosuppresant (it shuts down the immunse system to help reduce the inflammation in the lungs and throat). The problem is it can also suppress immune response elsewhere in the body. He figures the abscess was fairly old, and that my body was keeping the infection under control. I take the Advair, immunse system is out for the count, and the infection in my tooth goes gangbusters. He has me hop in the chair and does the root canal in 20 minutes! This guy was amazing! If any of you need root canals, go see Blake Nielsen at Endodontic Associates. My mouth is still a little sore today, but after this guy got done it was almost instant relief. Now I have to catch up on all the work I missed while being uselessly in pain all day, before heading off to scout camp all next week. I'll post pictures of the trip when I get back.

Moral of the Story: Don't breath the air in Salt Lake, always rinse after using your inhaler, brush your teeth, floss, and take a multi-vitamin!

Cheers,
Cody

Baby Bumper Cars at Lagoon

We took Londyn to Lagoon yesterday b/c Cody's brother's work had a Lagoon Day and it was Londyn's actual bday. She LOVED all of the kiddie rides!! Here she is - her car is purple and it's the one that keeps going in circles!!! I couldn't believe how brave she was on all the rides! Even when we got soaked on rattle snake rapids!

Londyn's "Under the Sea" party!

As many of you know, Londyn was very insistant on having a "lil mermaid party." So Saturday evening we threw her a party. Here is a pic of the under the sea slide! I'm sure most of you have seen it while driving by. And her is my attempt at the "lil mermaid cake" I thought she was a little pale and had a pig nose....but Londyn loved it and it tasted pretty darn good! Thank you to my mom for washing all of my icing bags and tips...thats the part I hate most about making cakes.
We set up 2 kiddie pools for the kiddos.
Birthday girl eager to blow the candles out.
Averie and Katie decorating a fish to hang over the slide.
Londyn and cousin Sofia trying to dry off and stay warm. They look like they could be sisters!

Ode to the Binki

The binki has been with us since the day Londyn born and with her SECOND birthday coming up, I thought it was definately time to say byebye to the bink. About 6 months ago I started to only let her have it when she was in bed. Then about 2 weeks ago she had fallen asleep for her nap twice without the binki so I just took it away cold turkey. I told her it was all gone. Cody told her it went to Australia (???!). And she has been great with out it. Every now and then she will ask for it, but is ok when I tell her its gone. I think it has been harder on me. It was so easy to get her to go to sleep with it. She still sleeps well but now she will talk forever in her crib, where before she would just fall asleep. And not having it on our St. George trip was hard- when she wouldn;t fall asleep at the hotel. But, I'm glad it's gone!

Pardon Our Dust

I'm trying to get a new theme working. It may take a few days.
